Bend 2.0 or Independence Day
We left Canmore for our Bend ver 2.0 training camp, pretty much during “one in the century” Alberta floods. I’m sure, most of you have seen devastating pictures and videos of Cougar Creek pretty much being demolished. Lots of houses, roads and trails got damaged. Trans Canada Hwy got completely destroyed in couple of places between Canmore, Banff and Calgary. Watching all that happening in Canmore, was unreal. Not every day you end up in the middle of State of Emergency. Now it’s all behind us and hopefully there will be no more rain this summer.
When we arrive to Bend, OR we found our “homes” parked, shiny and ready to go. That was our first experience in such “pimped” RVs. Big thanks to Justin and Joel J. for driving and “taking care” of those monsters. During our 17-day camp we moved few times, trying to find “highest” (elevation) and optimal places for altitude training. Oregon weather was very good to us, it didn’t rain a single time and it was hot and very dry. We weren’t doing anything special in terms of training, mostly 3-4hr days with couple of intensities and strength sessions, one hike up the Bachelor Mnt, which was very fun, especially shoe-ski down on crusty snow, although last two days were a bit “special” to me, out of 7hr of training, 5 were running, and I got so stiff and sore, that I hated running for about last hour and a half of last training day. Devon and Alex had a good time watching my bonking, but made sure I made through.
Quite a few years I had to celebrate my birthday on a training camp, away from home, and this time it wasn’t different. It happened that my birthday falls on July 4th, and I don’t miiiind when we in US on that day, for whatever reason (maybe American’s just a very nice and friendly people) all of the USA were celebrating it with me. My teammates made sure I had a fun day, and didn’t make me feel too old. They are the best!
So, another camp in the bag and I feel a bit tired, but I guess that’s normal, now few easy days to recover and back to it. Pretty excited to go to New Zealand in August, from the pictures I‘ve seen, conditions look amazing. Snow farm got a big snow storm recently. As for now, we all back to our homes… Devon, Lenny, Peri and I are in Canmore, and Alex got back to his “Kingdom” of Quebec
